I know this post is over a month late, however, T-Y-R-E is the coloquial British way of spelling our T-I-R-E. It's almost, as if it's kind of a form of brand-name snobbery.
" Yes, we'll spell it the Olde-Fashioned-waye, to show that our Tyres are more SUPERIOR than those lower-class people in their Lincolns and THEIR TIRES! " (Now you can huff at us and make that dramatic exuent!)
