Speaker Choices for Side of Console

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have read here before that they are 2.5 speakers.
That seems to be a very hard size to find. What have you guys used and where did you get them?

Thanks

They are smaller than 2.5s, i think they are like 2s or so. I just disconnected mines.

i put some infinity kappas 2.5'' in. however, i had to do a little cutting.

i wouldn't waste your time installing them unless you plan on hooking up an aftermarket head unit. with the stock hu they make zero sound. i just removed mine, until i get a better after market HU(which may be never).

search my threads for install pics. i think the threads title is something like "2.5'' speakers WTF!".

if anybody wants to buy these speakers from my me, make an offer.

My bad, I thought RED V8 meant 3.5s...

I run some Rockford Fosgate FRC3203 - 3.5" Punch 2-way Speakers.

Tight fit - sounds good.

pre-03 they were 3.5", in at least the 03 (and i imagine everything since then) they are real small, like 2". I have a set of the infiniti 3.5" that have never been used if any one is interested.

SO on Friday I decided to get the 3.5" Infinity speakers in the 2" holes in the console for my 2003 LS. It took a little bit of cutting and some minor alterations but they fit and you can not tell the difference by looking at them. they definately sound a little crisper but not sure if it is worth the time/price (neither was very much). I do not reguarly listen to the stereo with the DSP on (church, hall, news, etc.) but there was a much more noticeable change in those modes.

Guys,

I was looking over the schematics this past weekend and it looks like the center console speakers run off their own individual amp. I haven't messed with car stereos in a good many years, but when I did I do remember that a $500 set of speakers can sound like a $20 pair if the amp is not matched up right. Also, I remember I had a car stereo a while back and put some Pioneer 3.5's in the center. They sounded like the factory speakers until I put the proper amp wattage to them. After that, the were absolutely phenomenal - I mean night and day. If the center speaker's do have their own amp like I think, it would be interesting to find out what the RMS is. That'll be what you want to match your center speakers to. Can you guys post what the rating is on the Rockford and the one for the infinity's? I'm thinking about replacing mine too.

Where is the amp for the center speakers located ? I found a small amp under the rear shelf when I opened the trunk the other day, but I'm guessing it is for the rear shelf speakers ?

I wonder what this piece from Rockford Fosgate would sound like between the factory head unit and the speakers ? Sounds like a new idea in stereo equipment:

The amp in the rear is for the rear speakers. I just double checked, the amp for the center speakers is located behind the lower heat duct on the driver's side (under the panel). I'll take a look at it tomorrow. I just bet you if we can find out the rating (watts) it put's out, we can match it up to the best possible aftermarket replacement or maybe even find an aftermarket amp to replace it to optimally match other speakers?

Yep, the amp in the back is for 6x9 subwoofers in the package tray.

As for the center imaging speakers, are you afraid that your knees aren't getting their fair share of the sound? FWIW, the first thing the guys did when they created the THX system was drop the center speakers.
