(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: MsM8tress

Couldn't resist this one, I took some pics, some not too good, but from these can you tell me what I need to get at first?

1985 Grand Marquis, 1 owner, 62500 orig mls, interior seats clean no tears or rips, engine pics reflect a 21 year old 302 (I am already on the wire over the lid). And yes, the rear was hit 10 years ago re-painted from pasgr. doors on back, he's 2-toned cept front and back not top & bottom!

Yall know respect ya and listen to ya so tell me what cha think.....

THANKS!! SMOOCHES!

I had a vinyl top on a 1980 Plymouth Grand Fury, I hand washed the vinyl top
can't remember what cleaner i used but it was one that wouldn't dry it out during the summer. I figured that you would like it , but you're right i don't think the DMV would let that one thru, BUMMER!!!

Posted by: torquemonkey

1985, Hmmmm...thats when the "New" Coke flavor came out.
I don't know why I felt like sharing that.

Are you bored at work Torque

Posted by: torquemonkey

Nope, at home, can't sleep again.

Posted by: Redwingvksm

Wow. Good find Debi - now we can go side-by-side with my 87 TC

Posted by: NYC LS8

Oh, change the PCV valve, too. That might be why you're getting a lot of oil in that breather element in the air cleaner housing. And of course, change that breather element.

Debi, i agree with all the recomendations you have been given, also an oil change, new plugs and wires, new distributor cap and rotor might not need it but you can't go wrong putting new on there and with summer coming on you might want to think about getting the radiator flushed out to get it ready for summer time.

Posted by: JC1994

looks good,for 21 years. let's see 1985 I was 21 years old.

Posted by: pepperman

Debi, you need to get this looked at soon.

Posted by: torquemonkey

In the same shot above, looks like there is a vacuum port on what looks like a PVC fittting that ought to be capped off too. It is behind the coil, by the first wire loom separater deally. [Black fitting]
Also the Heat "stove pipe" that connects the exhaust manifold to the bottom of the air cleaner housing snorkel. There is a flapper in there that allows heated air from around the exhaust manifold to enter the engine when it is cold, allowing the engine to warm up quicker.

OK.....I've cleaned, at least got the first coat off, here is an engine shot (bnf).

I've got the seal on order, and looking for a place to change it for me. I'd like to do it myself, but again..."Tool"ie challenged right now..so the price is sounding right, might as well let a local make the money and the mess!

Now, the 3rd pic is of the rear diff., where the seal is (thanks Torq), like you said NYC, it needs a new seal and the more I drive it the more it leaks, so till I get it done, he's parked. Lookin to get it done this week. The pic is the front of the housing, as you can see, it's been messy for a while...I recall Torq saying something about blue balls.....but I've never seen seen those....by the looks of that housing, how bad do you think the dmamage is? No noises, no smoke, nothing really operationally noticable except the accelleration hesitation.....I dont know here.....?

I did change the PVC valve, NYC, it is on the oil cap itself....not where the element is..(weird) the two black plastic pieces off the element and into the engine are only elbows.....what's up? Could there be another PVC valve? When I took the element out, there was oil in it, it practically poured out! swapped it for a new one, that is clean now, but where could all that oil be coming from and how can I stop it. I used a can of tbi cleaner too. Runs a bit better, but still hesitatin on acceleration....oil change has been kept up on and next one is 500 miles out...but when I cleaned the cap (when I installed the PVC valv) the crap looked like coffee grounds!

HOTTIES you guys have been fantastic! Thanks! Let me know if you see more or if you think I may be neglecting something - and please don't think it is too trivial! (yeah I know to put gas in it Rich!, lolol).

SMOOCHES!!!!

Posted by: MrWilson

dang deb, you clean things up real good...i just may have to let ya do me...i mean, mine..

Posted by: pepperman

Debi, there is a world of difference in the first 2 pics the progress looks good so far. The hesitation maybe a clogged fuel filter, i would suggest changing that as well.

Posted by: Sergmark

Good work Debi.
I hope before you taped that wire you got rid of the green corrosion??
That engine is now a happier engine...

Ewwww Rich, Pepps don't go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: mrlandyacht

I'd get dual exhaust on that car and get rid of that CFI for a Carburetor.
I'd also tint the back windows to give it a nice look.
I have a 88 merc, take a look...

Well I'm only 30 min for the Mississippi River. The cruise will travel down Wisconsin Hwy 60, one of the most senic Hwy's in Wisconsin.

Well being that you are in Michigan you can show here Lake Michigan although the Wisconsin side is much better.

I grew up on Lake Michigan....

Posted by: mespock

Oh Debi car is looking nice. sorry I forgot to look - J/K

Posted by: Sergmark

Rich that sounds good. I may ask for some pointers later.
I have been through Wisconson when I had my own semi and my parents took us to the dells and house on the rock .....

Debi is the rear differential seal on yet ...LOL

Posted by: pepperman

Rich, you fogot to ask Debi if she put gas in it

Posted by: mespock

Debi how's the car coming?

Oh Steve - the House on the Rock is only about 30 min from me also. Dells about 1.5 hours. If you would like and have time I could arrange a day or night at the dells for you. How long are you going to be in Wisconsin or will you have for you and Irina.

What was that Debi... about your car.

WOW, mrlandyacht that merc is hot!!!! I think I will just do the necessary on mine, my $, time and luv go to my Mark .

I will probably tint, yours looks hot and it would help protect the interior. TBI, I don't know much about it, but if it is the source of the boggin on accelleration, might have to replace it. How much would replacing it with a carb cost vs replacing what is there?

Thanks Hun!
