What's up with this ethanol and.....

What's up with this ethanol and what does this mean for us? I hear it's good for all the newer cars but what about us with the old cars? and what kind of damage if any will it do our cas. How well will it work/affect NOS/SC or any other power adders?

I'm all confused now It's good /it's bad, what hell is it?

Many stations sell gas with ethanol around here, and if you live in the Milwaukee to Chicago area all the gas has to have 10% ethanol.

I don't think it should harm our cars.

It's ok. Less power than the regular 100% gas (Just chemically less stored energy) but it shouldn't make THAT Much of a power difference when mixed with Gas -just enough to help cut down emissions.

The detroit area is still mixed. Some have 10% some have 0%. It shouldn't bother our older vehicles at 10% - just stay away from the E-85 (85% ethanol) unless you own a FFV (Flex Fuel Vehicle)

It means that you will get fewer miles per gallon, in my case, it is an 8% loss in my LT1 (350cid) Caprice, the price might drop a few cents a gallon as it is <currently> pretty heavily subsidized by the Governement. Oh...yeah, almost forgot, it takes more oil energy to produce it than it 'saves' by replacing 10% of your gasoline. You remember, that gasoline that will cost you mileage...

It is great for ethenol producers, not so great for everyone else, except for the people we buy oil from as it takes more energy to produce than what burning it releases.

Ethenol is a very fine octane booster, not so good as a fuel.

No engineer in the World would say this is a good idea, it is special interest groups that pushed money at politicians and pretty graphs that showed how 'wonderful' this garbage is.

sounds like a 50/50 split for us soon to be high comp/boost guys high octane...no mpg.

Ethanol likes to eat rubber parts of your fuel system, so unless your car is made for it, stay away. Bio diesel I think has a much more promising future than Ethanol.

Does anyone own a E-85 vehicle?

Posted by: Redwingvksm

If you own a newer Ford product, odds are you are FFV Compliant...

Posted by: mespock

I nave noticed the loss in Mileage when I use the 10% gas in our area.

Posted by: JoeyGood

So since you get less miles per gal. with this stuff it will make you go to the gas station more often OH but we save the environment and get more octane what a load of this is. There is no global warming crap or ozone layer being lost it’s just another way to get more money in their pockets. Mean while our great president said he would look into price gauging to make sure we were not getting ripped off even though he himself is making money off this crap also

Don't you just love the way we get it from behind?

There is good proof that the climate is warming, just not that we are responsible for it. We only put out about .5% of the pollutants that are released into the atmosphere every year. Farting cows do more harm than we do to the envronment.

True it is warmer than it was like a 100 years ago but it’s always been on the rise they just noticed it 50 years to late so they all got worried just 15 years ago but as you said we are not responsible for it but we are responsible for making the cows fart with all the stuff they put in the feed but guess what we can use the cow product (<---SARCASIM but I think you know what the product is) for fuel and get rid of gas all together from what they say. Yea right then they wonder what causes mad cows

OK did some reading last night and found that ethanol is simply enough MOONSHINE

Just a few question to stir up some thoughts

Now yes it's made out of corn but my questions now are?

I thought moonshine was made from potatoes?

Would the stills come back from retirement?

We all know that moonshine was sometimes used as fuel but would the ATF come knocking down my door if I start brewing my own?

I find it funny that greenpeace tree hugging hippies are vegatarians....if they wanted to help stop global warming...they would be eating cows left and right...but that would be standing up for what you believe...we cant have that.

I've heard ethanol is only harmful if it sits in your tank for extended periods of time.
