3.6 Engine whine a lot?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have been told that my engine is making a whining/whiring noise. People on the street have told me this and I have noticed heads often turn and look in my direction, giving be to wonder about this.

Is this a common thing with the 3.6L?

I drove thru a city underpass with windows down and it sounded like a alternator bearing or some similar sound but only when the engine is rev's up. Only 7,100 miles on CTS.

do you have any engine mods?

Since it's under warranty just bring to a Cadillac dealer. If you're not satisfied with what you hear then bring it someplace else. If it's under warranty, why mess around.

Another option would be to buy a mechanics stethoscope for about $20, which may assist in making a diagnosis.

No mods, 100% stock.

I have been told there are 2 TSB's on this. One covers normal gear chain noise and they other is for a modfication of the harmonic balancer on front of engine. Whine increases with RPM and thats what mine appears to be. Let the dealer tech sort it out.
