startup problems

hi, I woke up this morning and my car wouldn't start

... I have a 91 lincoln mark 7 LSC 145 thousand miles on her. I noticed the night before that it took a second or two longer to get started up then it totally died this morning. When I turn the key I only hear a click and nothing else.. no attempt to roll over. I've already established that it is not a battery problem and I'm not very good with cars. Not sure if it's a common problem with these cars or if someone can give me some idea's based on the info. Any info would be great.... matt

PS anyone know where the ignition wires or fuses are kept?

Check the battery for charge. Does the amp light come on? Check to make sure the voltage regulator and alternator are up to snuff. Most importantly, make sure that the wiring is as it should be.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks back on my 88 BB. Wouldn't start, just made a click from the starter. Well it turned out that where the neg. battery wire grounded on the frame was corroded. Also my battery posts were filthy so I cleaned them and the ground, then she fired right up.

the voltage of the battery at rest was 12 volts so that seems to be good.(i think...) It seems to sound like there are actually 2 clicks... one from a box near the battery, then a click maybe from the starter. I'll check out the connections + wiring and stuff. Thanks matt

Ok.
After the connections are clean and tight from the battery to the starter relay switch, does the engine run?

hey i fixed the problem.. it was actually the starter. It took my dad a few hours to get the thing out so I owe him big time
