"Need help programming a remote for a 97, I did an extensive search!"

Before I decided to post here, I did a search which came up with nothing that fixed my problem. I bought a remote from someone on here so I'm pretty sure the remote is for a Mark 8.
The keypad works, I found the code on the module itself, the sticker on the trunk hinge is different. Whenever I input the keypad code and press or hold the 1-2 button, nothing happens, no cycling locks. I have tried it lots of times. However, I was just messing around and hit the 1-2 button 5 times and it unlocked the doors so I'm assuming that's a previous owners personal code. Anyhow, one of the threads I found in the search was to input the original code, then press the 1-2 button, then input a personal code. So I did that with the 1/2 five times as the personal code and I got the locks to cycle but then after hitting a button on the remote, nothing happened. It's like the car isn't responding to remotes. The battery is brand new so that's not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Blackicelsc, did you ever test these? Is there another way to program it and does the 97-98's have a module in the trunk that goes bad?
