headers- kooks have great fitment i just installed them, given i had the engine out cause i rebuilt it but you can get them in there in teh car it will just take time. they gain anywhere from 15 to 30 hp depending on the mods, plus they sound awsome. 3rd dont even mes with a bigger maf untill your boosting. there have been no proven major power gains from that. so either the headers or gain some time on the strip with a better tranny. the cheaper of the two is obviously the headers. good luck |

YES THE MARK VIII HAS A 4R70W WHICH IS THE EXACT SAME THING AS A AODEW WHICH IS AN AODE WITH WIDER SPACED GEARS. ACTUALLY HERE IS A QUOTE FROM MY FORD SERVICE MANUAL:
AOD-EW A special version of the AODE was released in 1993 with the Lincoln Mark VIII. This AOD-EW included wider-spaced gears for relaxed high-speed cruising and stronger internals. This transmission was later renamed 4R70W. Applications: AOD-EW 1993–1995 Lincoln Mark VIII 4R70W 1993–1999 Ford F-Series 1995–1997 Ford Thunderbird 1995–1998 Lincoln Mark VIII 1995–2001 Ford Crown Victoria 1996–2001 Ford Explorer 1996–2001 Lincoln Town Car 1996– Mercury Cougar 1996– Mercury Grand Marquis 1997–2001 Ford Expedition 1997–2001 Mercury Mountaineer AS YOU CAN SEE 93-EARLY 95 MARKS HAD AOD-EW TRANNY DESIGNATIONS AND LATE 95-98 HAD THE 4R70W DESIGNATION. THEY ARE ACTUALLY THE EXACT SAME TRANNY WITH 1 MORE ELECTRONIC GIZMO TO GET READY FOR OBDII WHICH WAS PUT IN 1996 MODELS. THEY RAN OUT OF AOD-EW IN LATE 95 SO THEY USED THE 96 OBDII TRANNYS IN LATE 95 PRODUCTION MODELS. HOPE THIS CLEARS THIS DISCUSSION UP AND I ALSO INCLUDED ALL THE VEHICLES THIS AOD-EW/4R70W WAS PUT IN WHICH HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED. THIS WAS A GREAT TRANNY BUT THE VALVEBODY IN THIS ALLOWED FOR SMOOTH SHIFTS FOR WHEN GRANDPA WAS DRIVING THE MARK 8 AND IF YOU ARE GOING TO RACE AROUND IN IT WILL BE HAVING IT REBUILT AS THE CLUTCHES WILL WEAR OUT FAST. THE REBUILD SHIFT KIT WITH STIFFER SPRINGS WILL ALLOW FOR A FIRM SHIFT AND SAVE A TON OF WEAR AND TEAR ON THE CLUTCH DISCS IN THIS AUTOMATIC TRANNY. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS IF THE TRANNY YOU HAVE IS STILL WORKING WELL AND HAS LIFE LEFT IN IT. IF YOU FLOOR IT FROM A STOP YOU SHOULD NOTICE A LENGTHY SLIPPAGE INTO SECOND AT 5200 RPM OR SO AND THAT SLIPPAGE IS FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION INTO 2ND AS A LUXERY CAR IS SUPPOSE TO DO, THE MARK WAS CONSIDERED A LUXERY CAR FOR GRANDPA WITH MONEY TO BUY IT. THE CAR HAS AN AWESOME ENGINE AND THIS TRANNY IS GREAT, BUT THE SHIFT KIT IS A MUST IF YOUR GOING TO TRANSFORM IT INTO A SUPER SPORT COUPE. GOOD LUCK IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS I CAN PROVIDE ARTICLE ON THE VALVEBODY FOR REBUILDING IT YOURSELF...PEACE ![]() |
