Console swap with pics...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: 00ls5spd

I switched out my console today. I had the manual tranny console with one cup holder. I switched it out for a 01' automatic console with the flip up cup holders. It's not much different I just really wanted the double cupholder...
It's not just a simple swap of the top part you have to switch the whole console because the clip in points for the top are placed differently. But it was a 30 min switch. Four bolts thats all. Here are some pics... The last pic is the before and the other three are the new console.

Lookin good, how come you decided to go for the two cup holder? Just a change?

Posted by: 00ls5spd

I usually go do the food runs for me and the wife and after a couple spilled cokes in my lap and on the floor I decided I needed to get two cup holders... and just needed the change...

Because 2 is always better than one just like with women. LOL

lol at mysterio..

not to knock ur car.. but i think u could do something with the bag around the knob.. looks a little dirty.. maybe its the flash from the pics.. but it doesnt look like it matches the color of the car.. can u paint that? or maybe make a bracket for it like the older cars.. i think it would look clean..
pretty cool project.. make a peice painted the color of ur car or trim kit inside the shape of the boot around the knob.. but it would be flat.. but u gotta give urself leweight for shifting.. maybe im asking for too much..

nice change..

Looks good man, but that's an 00 automatic console, the 01 has different cup holders.

Posted by: 00ls5spd

I actually just got a quote for a lighter grey suede...It will be changed in a couple weeks. But what do you mean by make a bracket for it? I'm not understanding what you mean. Could you post a pic?

Yeah I just realized that... ...The 01'+ have the non-flip ones right...

Posted by: BanginLS

mine doesnt have a flip one.. its an 02..

what i mean is that the older cars dont have a boot.. its jus a flat peice with grooves for u too shift ... i dont drive shift much so i dont know if the boot is that much better.. but it would pretty much look like the automattic.. but the color of the car.. and 6 groves.. so u can switch.. u can even put numbers for each gear.. i really dont know a good way to explain it.. but maybe a lighter suede would look better.. it does look dark..

Posted by: BanginLS

this is not what i meant.. but u dont need such a "big" suede bag do u?

here is a pic of what i mean somewhat.. its the only pic i could find that somewhat resembles what i mean..

Posted by: 00ls5spd

I see what you mean now....And yeah in the manuals you kinda need the boot to be that big for the throw of the shifts....It is about a small as it can be, to reach from the points where it is attached to the console and still reach all the gears.

Posted by: itsnotmydaddys

Did you also swap out the change holder in place for the traction control button. Looks good. My console lid snapped off (too many women climbing over) So im looking ot get the 01+ with the non flip hloders. (one of the LS' worst things)

Posted by: BanginLS

oh... i see what u mean.. so u wouldnt be able to get the top boot.. would u be able to do like the one on the bottom.. but obviously not so ugly looking.. take out the suede and make a frame with the grooves?/

u dont need to do it.. i think it will look loads better with the lighter suede.. im jus throwing ideas up

Posted by: 00ls5spd

Bill yeah I switched that out too. ( the traction control/change holder)...
Bangin..I'm gonna go with the suede but that is a neat idea about the shift area....

That reminds me...I have the traction control button not sure if it works but it looks complete I will just let someone have it....shipping would be like a buck..no worries about that....

Posted by: HyeLifeLS

Bangin, are you talkin about something like this?

This is in my brother's old 91 BMW 525i.

Posted by: BanginLS

nope.. i mean look at the second pic.. u see how the shift has a "trim" around it.. u can take out the boot and make a trim for the shift area.. give the car the classy look.. depends on what ur lookin for u know.. jus thoughts..

my traction control thing doesnt light up no more.. is that important?

Not my daddy's.. i beleive u want the '02 V6 LS console.. its the one i have.. with 2 cup holders.. i like that one..

Posted by: steagle

yo 00, better watch out for those cokes, cause 75% of the ones youll get at fast food joints wont fit in those '00 cupholders... everything is so gigantic now... the only thing i use my flip-up cupholders for is to hold my cellphone when im driving

Posted by: 00ls5spd

Very true but my boy told me jack-in-the-box sodas fit so I should be o.k. but most of the time my celly will have a new home...

Posted by: daves2000ls

yeah, the 2000 cupholders suck, they cant hold anything, i went around a corner just a few weeks after i got my car and my drink spilled and now i cant turn my traction control off(at least it broke in the "on" position)
