Not really a mod, but it only costs a little of your time:

Clean the black soot/ash out of the EGR opening of the throttle body. It makes a noticable difference in engine performance, and won't cost a cent.

The Best Tip I Can Give Is To Get A K&n Filter For $39.99 To Fit Into The Stock Box. The Cone Filter And Maf Sensor And Ice Boc Can Cost $600 And It Only Gives You 5hp Over A K&n In Stock Opening. Then Now That Your Car Can Breath, It Needs To Exhale. Get You Exhaust Done. Get That Center Cat Cut Out And Add Some Free Flowing Mufflers. That Will Cost $300 (thats What I Paid Today) And This Makes A Huge Difference. The Next Step Is A Fuel Pump Upgrade And A Lms Performance Chip ($300). Do All These Or At Least The K&n And Mufflers And You Will Notice A Huge Difference While Keeping Your Car Stock Looking And Your Wallett Padded. Good Luck

IS THE AIR SILENCER THAT CHAMBER CONNECTED TO THE AIR INTAKE PIPE THAT IS ABOVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD INDER THE COVER? WHAT IS IT USED FOR ANYWAY?
