What Is The Best Muffler For The Mark Viii For Power

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I Have Just Purchased My 2nd Mark Viii, Its A 1995 Lsc With 52,000 Miles. I Put A K&n Filter In It Right Away And I Want To Do The Exhaust. What Is The Best Mufflers To Put On These For Performance And A Nice Smooth Tone For Sound. I Dont Want To Sound Like A 69 Cuttlas Teen Car, But A Stock Cobra Mustang Maybee? I Have To Hear My Wife Traveling On The Highway, But Not To Much. I Put Flowmasters On My Expedition And The Cabin Noise Is High, But The Mufflers Are Beneath Us Also, Where The Marks Are Under The Trunk Behind Axle. Any Suggestions? Also The 95 Is Obd1 And No Programmers Are Available So I Need To Use The Chip. I Have Seen The Superchips Claiming 28hp Gains. What Is This Lms I Hear About? Is It A Chip Or Programmer. These Are The Next 2 Mods And Would Appreciate Any Help As I Like To Go Fast, My Vette Has 600hp And If I Had Wings I Could Fly, But No Room To Fart Or Anything, And The Wife Is Too Close And No Room For My 2 Year Old. Look Forward To The Forums And Any Advice Anyone Can Give.. Many Thanks.

Welcome. Nice car!

Performance wise, anything is better then stock. Outside of that, they are all about the same (flowmaster, hooker, dynomax, and whatever else is available now). So go with the sound you like best. Nice car by the way. I actually kinda interested in the newer Hookers, Summit racing sells, never have heard them run. More curious then interested.....but I would like to hear em.

Dynomax Bullets are cheap, will give you that stock Mustang Cobra sound and weigh almost nothing. Also, they are not visable like some of the other bulky mufflers out there. They are not that loud at all... oh yea did I mention they are cheap?

Wrong, just wrong. There are day and night differences between brands, some subtle, some not so subtle.

While exhaust tone is a matter of personal preference, you can bet the quieter will have less power overall. Drone is usually a big issue, but a 2-in 2-out resonator or x-pipe will usually take care of most of the drone. The main thing to remember is to be sure the drone isn't at customary highway speeds whatever that may be for you.

FWIW, I first went with a cat-back, 2-1/2" dual exhaust with a single-X and DynoMax UltraFlos. Good increase in power and relatively quiet with no noticable drone. LMS has some sweet mufflers and exhaust setups as well. Most will tell you FlowMasters on the 4.6L DOHC sound terribly raspy. Just my 2 cents.

I HAVE THE 4.6L SOHC IN MY EXPEDITION AND HAVE A SINGLE EXHAUST WITH A FLOWMASTER QUIET MODEL AND IT SOUNDS CRAPPY AND WHEN YOU GET TO 60-80 ON HIGHWAY IT IS NOISY WHERE YOU CANT HERE ANYTHING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE JUST SO MANY CHOICES OUT THERE AND THE LMS MUFFLER WITH 2X PIPE HAS A COMMERCIAL ON THE LMS WEBSITE AND IT IS IMPRESSIVE BUT SOUNDS VERY LOUD LIKE A RACE CAR. I WANT TO KEEP THAT LUXERY CAR IMPRESSION WITH SOME SOUND OF MUSCLE, AFTER ALL THIS IS ONE HELL OF A MOTOR HERE. I BELEIVE THE MOTOR IS CHOKED AND COULD UNLEASH MORE POWER WITH THE PROPER EQUIPTMENT, IE A CHIP, EXHAUST, AND K&N. I APPRECIATE EVERYONES POSITION AND ENCOURAGE ANYTHING MORE.
