Gen 2 traction control issues

Can someone tell me what's going on with my traction control? It seems like it got overly sensitive since I put on the Falken GR B's on the back. They are slightly shorter than stock, 225/55/16. Now with the traction control on, the light will come on any time I moderately accelerate. On the freeway, it will come on and stay on until I get the car back down to city speeds. Is this because of the difference in tire size or a loose sensor or what?

Dont think the tires would have anything to do with it, but not sure. I would suspect a sensor.

When the wheel speed does not match what the computer thinks that the actual spped should be, a speed mismatch error can occur. That is why there is a need to get a new speedo gear when you change the rear gears. I used to get ABS warnings on my T-bird after I switched to lower profile tires. Speedo sensor change corrected the issue.

The Gen 2 doesn't get the speedometer speed from the tranny though...

are the rears shorter than the fronts? if so, thats the problem. the rear wheels are actually making more revolutions per mile than the front, so the car thinks the rears are spinning faster, therefore engages the traction control to help it out. if all 4 are the same size, then it sounds like a bum wheel speed sensor.

It's a Gen2 thing.

I had shorter tires in the back with the Nitto DRs compared to the stock sized fronts on my '93 and never had any issue.

i never had a problem either with my shorter DR's on the back, but then again its habit for me to turn off the traction control when i start the car..

Hmm, I have the same kind issue too. My tires are all the same and yet the traction control comes on when I floor it on dry pavement. That LMS housing must is awesome!(j/k) When I floor it from stand still or rolling @ 30+ MPH, my traction control comes on and the car will moderately accelerate. Even with T/C off and O/D on the car feels like detunes its self up shifts quickly and moderately accelerates. Only when I turn off both Traction control and Over drive, the car tachs out @6k and scoots!
This is all after I had put in a "tune" from my SuperChips Micro Tuner, with all the parameters at max.
Go figure.

Big Brother must be trying to control the car from satelites.

i put a set of 265/35/18's (slightly smaller than stock) on my gen2 mark and eveytime i touch the gas the traction control comes on even in reverse.

Yep, I only have the 55 tires in the back, 60's in the front... guess that's the problem. Will fix it shortly with new tires in the front as well. Oh well traction control is useless anyway in CA...

as in how? its only 2 button presses right now, so its not too bad, but i am looking into making a hardwired switch that turns it off right away when the car is started even without having to do it on the message center..

I once thought along the same path even on the Gen1 - a way to have the default for the traction control and OD to both be off. It can be done using a latching relay setup triggered by the same signal that triggers the auto door-locks - the reverse signal from the MLPS. You could then still hit the switch to engage the traction control or the OD.

Actually with the installation of 4.10s, the issue went away for me. Now it's only necessary to disengage OD on rare occasions(or while at the track).

I've not looked into the Gen2 setup, perhaps it could be done in a similar way?
