Tach not working

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

1993 Mark VIII. My tach is stuck on 1000 rpms..........powered on or off ignition. Is there something simple it could be? I just bought the car, and am just getting to look at this part of it.

I guess you tried the obvious - tapping lightly on the instrument bezel?!

They stick a lot of times. You can just remove the cover and gently lift it a little.

Try this it will not only explain, but there is a link that will give you the necessary steps to fix the problem.

I have not had much time to look at the tach. I did slide a wire through the panel and touched the needle on the tach and it will easily move and stay anywhere that you push it to. Yes, I tapped it, checked the fuse and connections at the coils..........and that all looks good. Guess now I need to pull the cluster and check to see if I am getting power and grounding correctly. I got my Ford CD Manual today............and loaded it on the computer, so I guess I will jsut go through the diagnostics. By the way........that manual is awesome from what little time I had to look at it today. (factory tech manual for 93-94 Mark VIII and others.......bought on ebay for $10)

it will save you a lot of head aches and time . if you can get a vacumm and electrical book . take the time to read how to use both the books. the v&e has a complete diagram of all systems and where they are located in each part of the car. jd
