To armor all or not...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I used to work at a car wash here in STL where we armor all'd ALOT of cars. Over the years ive heard its bad, its cracks the dash, it wont harm anything.

Just wondering if you guys use it on you LS. Any pics. My dash and doors are looking pretty dirty (im a painter) so im looking for a roduct that will restore my dash.

Thanks in advance.

Say NO to Armor-All...it is a water based product and that is the reason why it ends up crackin everything. When the water starts to evaporate it pulls it out of what ever it is applied to causing it to crack early. I use Black Magic semi-gloss dash protectant. It is not a super glossy protectant so you do not get blinded by the reflection on the windshield.

Yeh, I to stay away from the shiny stuff. I use Mequiars cleaner conditioner, works good and not to shiny, just looks clean.

I have used Armor All since about the mid to late 70s, and had decent results with it.

I only had one car that ever got a cracked dash and that was a 74 Datsun in sunny SoCal. Datsun was notorious for cracking plastic back then.

Only complaint on Armor All I had is it is greasy unless you spend some time to buff it out. And it seems to attract dust. Also it makes for really slippery moped tires I discovered.

I still use it but am not as frequent a user due to laziness and until recently I lived in the rain blasted waste lands of the Great Northwet.

I have also used STP Son of a Gun and it seems to work as well and maybe not as greasy.

I don't use the Armor-all protected in the interior, but I do use the Armor-all deep clean on plastic parts in the engine well. Keeps it nice, deep black looking.

try using murphy's oil soap diluted with water.trust me this works! get a clean spray bottle and put some murphy's in it (just enough to cover the bottom) and fill with water.shake it thoroughly and you are ready to go.

you can use this on plastic, vinyl, leather, and even use it as carpet shampoo. For dirty grained leather or plastic, try a white scotch brite pad (ultra fine) and rub gently;go back over everything with a dry towel. This little trick works great, smells great, and will give everything that factory new look with no dulling out or greasiness.if you want to go over everything with a protectant of some type, try lexol leather conditioner which can be used on vinyl also.

I hope this information is of any help to you;like some of the other guys said about armor all,it tends to dry things out over time.Keep this stuff for the tires and wheelwells! P.S. NICE LS !!!! I love the all black look with the wheels and tint! nice understated look, next time you see a honda at a light spank 'em and show them a real car in action.

thanks for the compliments. Where can i find this stuff. will it give it a little shine/new car look.

OFF TOPIC::::: I left my rims on throughout the winter (my dumbass fault) and they got pitted. What can i use to get them looking new. With summer coming up i need to get the ls looking new.

I use Mequiars leather conditioner on the seats and Black Magic protectant on the dash and trim. Looks very good and doesn't seem to have an odor after leaving the windows cracked for about a half hour. I also like to use neverdull (spelling?)on my wheels. It shines them up pretty quick without alot of buffing all of these products are at my local napa and walmart.

IMHO, there are other products that are superior to Armor All. Some are mentioned above. I like 3M Tire Dressing as my protectant. This stuff works great, not too shiney, and lasts a long time. It's expensive, though.

NOOO!!!! That shiney stuff on the interior looks NASTY!!!
