Comments please - Old School "Wheels" on a Mk8

Hey guys, as I've said before I don't care too much for the 16" turbines on my Mark and they do have a couple of small pits... but a performance look isn't right for my car since it has a carriage roof and definite "bling" paint in the Evergreen Frost metallic (with the COOLEST tan/burgundy handpainted microstripe along the top of the fenders and doors....)

What do you think about doing a modification of these 15" Mark IV covers to fasten them to my 16s? I'm thinking the thick inner lip on my alloys will allow the cover to fit up nice and flush - mounting could be an issue but with a little creativity I could probably get them to center up....

Be a helluva lot cheaper then rims - and true to the brand....

Your thoughts?

I don't think it will work.
I hear in some places they get a big wheel cover, and screw it to a smaller wheel to give the illusion of low profile tires and big rims.

I'm sorry. But just the thought of hubcaps on a Mark VIII make me cringe. I feel your 'snowflake' pain, but there has to be a better solution.

Somebody donate this guy some rims.

Sorry but you can't beat the timeless Cragar SS wheel for a KILLER newstalgia look.

Hmmmm...... What about the practicality of a "minus 1" changeover?..... do you think 15" steelies would bolt up? I could easily match the outer dimensions of the 16" tires with a higher profile....and once again, don't think performance. This thing was doomed to ghetto cruiser the moment the original owner upped for that cloth top....

If you change the hub to a 4.5 inch Stang hub deal it will bolt up but the tremendeous offset would worry me.

You would more or likely have to get a custom offset steel rim done in 15 inch.

you cannot go to a 15" rim on the marks, the front brakes wont clear.

John I hear what you are saying about sport rims on that Mark VIII. But I don't think those hubs would work. (My Opinion) -

The Standard snow flakes would look much better than your 20 spoke directional you have.

Octastars would look nice if you can find a set. I don't know if Joey is looking to sell his off his 94. I thought he was sprucing it up so maybe.

Otherwise I don't know but I do agree that sport rims wouldn't look as good on that Mark. Good Luck.

I think I agree with you, Rich. I'm sure a year or so of shopping will bring a set or two of chromed/polished 'flakes up on eBay or on here.....

If I had a set of the flats I'd setem up there and then we'd see - but I'm not going to spend $50 just to see how bad they'd look. (of course, frankly, they would never be cheaper....I'm sure I could resell them without a problem for that price)

How about these bad boys? (and they SPIN!)

KIDDING

In my honest opinion..... That has to be the stupidest idea any mark viii owner has EVER come up with.

come on now you frogetting the guy who was smothing out the hump.... thats way retarded.

If you don't want to custom rims , start looking around for stock t-bird , Continental , Taurus wheels

you don't want to got 15"s you would have to go with 70-75 profile .... it would handle like carp. if the would fit

by the way anyone know if Tauruses ever came with 17 stock??

I hate my chrome 10 spokes - 2nd set and now they are peeling.
