Opposition to Patriot Act dwindles.

And flies thru the Senate today on a 89-10 vote. Bush and Americans WIN AGAIN! Somebody on this site needs to start shining Bush's boots. I might be licking them but I know there is someone who just might be buffing them with his be-hind pretty soon.

So the inevitable was finally accomplished, BFD. The FACT is no one on the left was blocking renewal of the Patriot Act, only insisting that improvements be made to further ensure our citizen's liberties are better protected than they were. While the final changes were somewhat watered down from what they wanted, a small victory was indeed won. Therefore the "left" can also claim "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED".

So Bush got his bill passed, and the Democrats got a couple of the minor changes they wanted through- but in even MORE watered down form.

That's a success for the Democrats?

I guess that makes sense. They think they're policies on Defense and economics are successes too. In contrast, this must be a big victory.

Eh, beats a kick in the a-s-s, which is what it would've been if they'd given in earlier.

really, explain the substantive changes that were avocated specifically by the Democrats that happened.

The only "victory" is they were able to distort the perception of the Patriot Act, in an effort to hurt the President. Otherwise, they attempted to defeat it. Then they attempted to change it. Then they attempted to make it a election cycle issue. Then they had to just accept a delay. And now they've signed it with some minor changes advocated by most Republicans.

Well done.
