Just a warning to any future or even current Seville owners. One year ago I purchased what I thought at the time to be an excellent car. However, in the past year I have put on well over $12 000 in repairs alone. This included at least 7 different shops (including GM dealer) for at least 3 months of the year. I am a student so it has been very hard to make the payments. I understand that I likely bought a lemon and that my mechanics were likely taking advantage but this is terrible. Tomorrow I will be trading my car in (for a lot less $$ than originally spent) for a 2006 V6 Sonata. I encourage anyone to to argue it has less performance/ luxury than the STS. I'm not looking for a debate I just wanted to warn everyone.
'93 STS parts Replaced/Fixed in '05
- 2 O2 sensors
- Transmission case ($$$)
- Dash module
- Computer(s) ?? what ones, who knows
- Coolant Pump
- Alternator
- Starter
- Ignition Module
- Break Light Wiring (basically rewired the whole car at $60/hour)
- Etc, etc, etc
The thing is that once you spend the first $3000 or so on repairs its hard to to just stop and call it quits. Escpecially with all the crooked mechanics out there.
its not the cars fault the previous owner was a douchebag.
you definately cant expect much more out of a car that is 13 years old either.
but i know how you feel, being tired of repairs. my last car almost drove me crazy with repairs. not lincolns fault, it was the fault of the moron who owned it before me who apparantly thought preventive maintenance only entailed a good detailing every other week.(if its clean its got to run good, right?) luxury cars require more upkeep than a kia rio, and people seem to forget that. sorry you had bad luck with your car, and good luck with the sonata. let me know when it starts falling to pieces at 60k.

Mistake............if you have it all fixed.........don't trade it in. Just sell it. You will get much more out of it. Then buy what you wish. I never trade in anymore. Too big a rip off. (though I am probably too late with my 2 cents)

Why would you spend 12K in a year on a 93 STS? From a practical standpoint, it simply doesn’t make sense to spend that kind of money on 13-year-old car. I mean, it’s not like the car has sentimental value, correct? I also don’t see the 12K in the list of fixed/replaced items. Did you replace the transmission with a brand new one or a rebuilt? It appears you needed to look at the situation from a more practical perspective by analyzing whether it’s worth spending thousands of dollars on a 93 STS or, in the alternative, cut your losses and move on to another more reliable car. It’s obviously too late to reconsider; however, you should now look to get as much money for the car as possible whether through a trade-in or private sale.
Start by looking at the Kelly Blue Book trade-in value since it looks like you want to trade-in rather than a private sale:
For a 1993 Cadillac Seville STS Touring Sedan 4D with 100,000 miles in excellent condition, the trade-in value is about $3,725 and in good condition is $3,320.
For a 1993 Cadillac Seville Sedan 4D in excellent condition, the trade-in value is $3,000 and in good condition $2,645.
