The burp did it! I slowly added about 2.5 quarts of 50/50 to the plug hole (blow hole?) in front of the alternator. I noticed that the "O" ring was missing from the plug. I replaced everything after filling it up and started the car. It warmed up to about the "A" in NORMAL which is about right. I drove it around town fetching parts and special tools for the Elky and it never heated about the "A" the whole time. I'll open it up again tomorrow and make sure there is no air in the system.
The only thing I can figure is that it sucked in some air from the overflow and the loss came from the missing "O" ring on the top plug. The dealership that replaced the engine must have missed installing the "O" ring. The hoses are in good shape and I found no other irregularities. I'll keep the spare thermostat and "O" ring for the housing for a another rainy day. Thanks again for all the input! Since I am doing so much automotive work with the Elky I figure I'll start maintaining the Mark as well. |
