door lock stalk snapped off

anyone know how hard it is to replace a door lock stalk? or where I could get one?

What is a door lock stalk?

Are you meaning the rod that comes through the top? It is easy to replace with the panel off, I believe going from memory that it snaps into another plastic piece in the door going to the lock mechanism. It should pop right out for replacement.

yes, that is exactly what i meant. i assume this is a ford only part?

I am guessing that it is, but it should be close to if not the same as a T-Bird. I will look if I ever get back to the junkyard, I have been sick with the flu for a week.

It will take longer to get the panel off than to replace. Did it break or just pop off? They are generally held on by a little clip that can pop off, the rod will eventually fall out. If the lock/unlock still works with the button then this is a simple repair. Part is called a Control Rod 93-98 are the same Marks 8 only T-birds are different:

LH F3LY 6321581-A

$4.00 when I bought mine last summer - included the knob at the top !!!!

I would put a wanted thread up, took Lincoln 4 weeks to get me a pair.

just the top of the stalk snapped off, it still goes up and down, just more difficult to pull up now since there isn't much left to grab on to. Thanks for the part numbers, I will try to get one as soon as i can.

if its just the plastic knob that broke off the top you can just unscrew it and get the know from any crappy little parts store for like a buck

i was thinking that too - the screw is visible. not sure if i have enough left on the stalk to get a grip to unscrew it tho.

You may have to take the door panel off. It's not that bad. They only thing I screwed up is I broke the tabs off of the plastic covers for the lights at the bottom of the door. There is an article here http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00055.html

just curious, when do you ever have to manually pull/push that know,i cant even tell you what the door lock knob on my car feels like, never touched it,like i said, just wondering.

Posted by: rmac694203

I have to do it on mine because If I use the lock buttons on the remote or on the door panel my alarm goes off after about 30 seconds. Pushing down on the lock stalk doesn't arm the alarm.

Is your door adjar light come on alot?

Posted by: rmac694203

No, fixed that long ago. Also tried disconnecting the hood sensor. That did nothing.

this is EXACTLY what happens with my car, and no, the door ajar message has never appeared. Once it warms up, I am removing my alarm system, total waste.

as i said, it's the only way i can lock my car without setting off the alarm. i can't even use my key to open the door, i have to use the number pad on the door - as soon as i insert and turn my key, the alarm goes off. i have tried everything. it's gotta come out.

My alarm going off and door sensors were directly related. Strange. Sorry you guys weren't so lucky.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

Did you change the sensor on the keylock, its different than the one on the latch. Just asking, not trying to p you off with the obvious you probably already tried. Alot of alarm sensors are negative tripped so its kinda backwards how it works sometimes.

no i didn;'t, but i have tried enough other things that at this point, it is easier to just remove the system computer than to continue to change and take apart sensors It;s not like the alarm system is useful in any case...

maybe i'll give the keylock sensor a shot.....i'll see when it gets warmer and i am more motivated to dismantle doors.

Now I've never had to mess with that on my VIII, but on my VII after a door swap I had to snake the harness in and get familiar with all its plugs. The keylock sensor on it just snaps on if I remember correctly. Good Luck.
