99 TC keyless entry issues

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Anybody have ideas on what this might be? I have a 99 Town Car with some keyless entry problems. When you enter the factory code on the key pad, the pad lights up for several seconds, but the doors do not unlock. After a few seconds the keypad lights go off and will not light up again unless it is left alone for a bit. All of the remote's (FOB) fuctions seem to work fine, doors lock/unlock, lights blink etc..

The other strange thing is the interior lights will randomly turn on by them selves. I have only noticed this when parked at night (I assume for obvious reasons). If the headlights are set to "automatic", they will come on at this time too! After a few moments the interio lights dim and go off, and the headlights shutdown. When this happens the doors stay locked, and no lother ights blink.

Any thoughts?!?

just have it checked out...sound to me like you might have a short somewhere...

Sounds like a short in the system.

Also, whenever you enter the code, if you go too fast, it won't unlock the doors. Can be a pain, if it is raining and/or cold outside.

Was the keypad factory-installed, or was it a dealer-installed accessory? I know that Lincoln dropped the keypad from the Town Car with the 1998 redesign, just to save $134 dollars.

Good Lands. At least they came to their senses in 1999.

Thank God Jacques Nasser is gone from Ford. Goodbye, and good riddance!

double check the code - it is on a sticker on the Pass side trunk hinge just to be sure.

The other is the battery could be going. These Lincolns get funky when the batteries start to go. My '90 TC would unlock the doors and the outside temp gauge would go from 60 to 90 to 30 all in 10 seconds.

Anyway best to get checked out to be sure.
