I am considering getting a first gen Mark VIII in a few years and I was just curious what are the best years to get?
which ones have the least problems and such?
Thank you for your input

96 LSC is generally considered the best of the 1st gens, the 98 when maintained might be the best overall.

98 Lsc All The Way ..good Luck

Posted by: ALBUNDY

Since someone mentioned the 96s is the Diamond Aniversary Edition considered to be the LSC for that year?

Posted by: Dominus

1998 LSC. That is why I own 2.

Posted by: torquemonkey

I don't beleive so . . . LSCs and Diamond anniversary are different. Diamonds came w/ a crystal vase dealy with some paperwork and do not have the LSC badgeing.

but they are heavier and a base gen 1 could own u

Posted by: mach8

I'd have to vote for the '96 LSC also, no ones' made a car to touch it since.

Posted by: buddylee

93's was the fastest!

Posted by: driller

Blue 93's.

Not my Lincoln.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

Diamond models weren't LSCs, they had limited color selection, and a diamond anniversary label etched in the rear side windows. 96 LSCs were least produced, second to the 98 spring edition, that was some ugly colors thou. This is to the best of my knowledge

Pearl white 93's are the coolest of them all!

My 94 still managed a 14.65 at 97.21 stock, could have gone faster but only got 2 runs that day.

I love that story. JK

Posted by: mespock

Hey does it really matter. The difference between 93 to 96.

You get a little faster with the 93's and obvious Scott's 94 almost qualifies as being the fastest. 96's you get better headlights.

As for me I'll wait until I can't get anymore gen 1's before I get the gen II's

From what I read a little more costly for some repairs.

But really it doesn't matter. What I would look for is the best price on the best Mark VIII you can find.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

Selection is getting limited.

Posted by: Fro99

if you dont get the 96 you will get pissed at the headlight situation
and want to get hids forsure

yea the 93 gonna be faster stock but if you dont keep it stock and mod it i belive that it will not matter

i have a 94 and love it see nothing wrong with it

i personaly dont think there is that much difference between 93-98
(******EXCEPT FOR THE HEADLIGHTS...HA******)

Posted by: MrWilson

Comfort wise, and trouble wise, youd be happiest with 96 (LSC) or 98
if you want speed go with the 93 or 95 (IMHO). But if you want speed, get one that has 0 options. (less options mean less weight.) i have 0 options in my car cept the sunroof someone put in afterwards. u can guess i wanted speed. If you want one to mod. Go for a 93. if you want one just to be comfey get a 98.

Posted by: JMiles_T

Money is the bottom line here.

If I saw a '96 LSC for $5000, and a '93 for $3000, I'd get the '93. After buying new HID housings and ballasts for the '93, I'd have a faster car and still have saved $1000.

i love my 94.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

I would recommend looking at all models, they all have little differences. 93-94 interior center console is diff. than 95-96. 97-98 the interior changed some more. Now I always liked the real wood high gloss full console of the 95-96. There other little things, wheels for example, you could interchange if you want, but maybe you find what you like and don't have too. 93-96 exterior vs. 97-98 exterior both have a great but slightly different look. Overall condition, color, options, and of coarse price all play a part. Once again the selection is getting limited, so be patient if this is the car you want.

Don't forget EEC-IV('93-'95) vs. OBD-II('96-'98) - if you care.

Posted by: 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC

Exactly, every year has a change. I normally grouped the 95-96 together, but that made a difference, making the 96 the only gen1 OBDII. I just learned that a year ago or so.

Posted by: ALBUNDY

I like the 96 but prefer some of the cosmetics of the 97-98 like the grill. I really don't like the chrome grills of the earlier model therefore I won't rob the jewlery store to make me a (chrome)grill. Ha Haaaa.

Posted by: Moes8

just an fyi,97-97 gen ii's have chrome grills too,if they are not LSC's

Whatever you do, make sure you have a couple grand sitting around for replacement parts and repairs, otherwise don't bother. These things aren't miracle cars. They will and do fall apart. That's why it's smart to stick close to this forum.

Posted by: mespock

Right - you are going to have some issues. Usually air ride, and be prepared to get the 1 2 accumulator fixed.

But if you shop around you can find good ones out there. Just don't let someone screw you on the price. I wouldn't pay much over $3000 for a gen 1 and not much more than $5000 for a gen 2. If you seak you will find. Don't worry too much about miles. The last for a long time.

Posted by: scott9050

If someone does not buy Gman's 93 with HID's, new airbags, suspension pieces and only 50,000 miles for $3500 soon I am going to scream.

Posted by: rmac694203

Oh if I had the money I would.

That car needs to sell. Right Price, good condition. I don't need another one right now. I wish I did or could...

Posted by: pepperman

IF i had the $3,500 GMAN's Mark VIII would be mine!!!!!!

Posted by: 94m5

I may have a buyer..... I'm going to call them today to see about it.

My mom wants to get back in an VIII pretty bad, and this is as god a time as any.

Mike

Posted by: mrlandyacht

well, thanks for the input guys....
so it seems that '96 is the best year of gen I and 98 is the best for gen II.

Posted by: JC1994

call me biased, but out of the 10 Marks I looked at back in 1999, I was most happy with my 1994, It was faster than even the 93 I drove, it was the also a 1 owner non- smoker car, always garaged. the guy that owned it before me was 59 years old.

Posted by: JDS353

with 3 marks to drive i still love the 94 5speed . wish i hadn't let that guardrail eat the white 93. mike lets me drive his 98 and 95 when we get it done . of the four i like the way the 94 seats feel like they are higher than the 98. if you go with a gen1 swap for hids is a major plus.

Posted by: turborich

I just bought my MARK VIII a couple of months ago. It's a 95 and I love it! As far as looks go I really like the 97-98. If it's clean and the price is right then buy it. good luck finding one.
