why are gen 1 faster then gen 2?

Well I know the intake is better and I think the gen 2 weight more but how much more? What else is different that makes the gen 1 mark faster then the gen 2.

Posted by: JC1994

the computers are programmed different.

The Gen 2 engines (and 96) have the Beehive valve springs like the Cobra. Gen 2 has COP no plug wires. Gen 2 throttle body tube is a better design but the intake manifold is the biggest restriction and tuning. I think Gen 2's are slightly heavier as well.

along with the above mentioned reasons,i have heard the main reason is that the computer programming is less aggressive,i figure it has to do with the start of obd2 in 1996,i have read on one of the mod motor sites that the the single most agressive engine computer was code "DZA1"
obd 1

so I if had a chip, it would hang with a gen 1,right?

Posted by: 98LSC32V

If your engine is tuned up then yes, with a Chip you should be about the same speed as a well tuned stock gen 1.

Ok so if i race with a gen 1,about how many car lenghts would it have on me

Posted by: apbpetey

Not all gen2 are slower and not all gen1 are faster. It really would depend on the car and driver as to how much of a lead either would have. There are some stock gen2 marks around that run in the 14.9-14.8 range. On average though the 93 mark is considered the fastest stock mark. The programing wa set up more on the preformance side with them compared to other year marks.

Thats what I hear too that the 93's were the fastest. This is all based on the computer set up for that yr, so If u up the chip, yr doesent matter. But the different things between gen 1 and 2 are the only things to put into consideration.

If the exhaust looks stock, Im pretty sure a system from the 95-96 LSCs would bolt up.
