Question about LMS MAF Intake

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have the MAF kit from LMS. And I haven't noticed a real diffeence in performance since i bought it. So today I was pulling the throttle cable with one hand and had my other hand all around the filter. And it really doesn't feel like it sucks up that much air. Is this normal? I figure it should suck up alot, but I barely feel anything. And also I never understood what the adjustable balance tube is. Thanks guys!

It is sucking more air than you think, im sure. It only gives what...about 10-12rwhp. You need atleast 20 to feel a diff. Its realy (IMO) just the starting pt for opening up other mods. The adj balance tubes are an easy calibratable solution to MAF's flow needs. (Ex. bigger injectors, cams, s/t charger, nitrous)

i really really don't think it adds 12 rwhp...maybe hp......but not rwhp....

5-10 hp on a stock motor. IMO.

Oh it does, very much so.

By just adding the MAF and airbox you can gain 12rwhp?
Does that make it more gas efficient or less?

12 hp at the wheels from a maf? how is that possible? that means it's adding around 20 hp to the engine as a whole.....just seems like a lot from a maf...

not realy...check this out...http://www.corral.net/tech/powerplant/dohcmas.htm

thats 20 hp (at the crank) JUST from a maf. 96 4.6 dohc.

if its not tuned properly, then you wont be getting the full effect IMO.
Next mod id say is the cold air box, and a chip, and underdrive pullies. I think thatd be good for boostin ya up to like 325 at the crank. guestimate.

cool, thanks

Don't you also have to redo the exhaust to fully take advantage of the increased air flow?

You do not "Have" to but it will really make a difference.

We see 2.5-4 mpg better with the exhaust and maf. I get 27.8 @75 mpg with a grocery list of bolt ons and 4.10 gears.

You will typically see a minimum of 1 mpg better with just the maf alone, provided you have a good delivering fuel pump and new filter.

Plus it sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD Too!

Thanks for all the input. But how do you tune the MAF properly for the best performance? I probably sound stupid, but maybe this is why I haven't seen a difference. Thanks again guys

Ours is already set properly. Just plug-n-play.
