I have a 96 LM8 that is throwing a check engine light. The scanner code is P1537 "Idle speed auxillary inputs". Anyone have any input on this?

P1537 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open

Okay, What is an intake manifold runner? and What makes it stick open?

Posted by: Psychostang

Your intake manifold is a dual runner design. The first runner is for below 3,000 rpm operation, and then there is the 2nd runner which is controlled by the IRMC system, for above 3,000 rpm operation. There is a butterfly in each of the 2nd runners, on a common shaft. The computer will open these butterfly valves via the IRMC controllers. Basically its getting a voltage feedback from one of the 2 IRMC controllers, that indicates the valve is open all the time. These valves become gummed up from egr and other sludge deposits over time. It could either be stuck open, or a false reading.

What can I do about this problem? Is is something that an average mechanic can do?
