02 Continental Air Deflector Defect (Brittle)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi Everyone!

Anyone else have noticed how hard and brittle the front air deflector (below and beyind the front bumper) is? We drive our 02 Continental w/ TLC but the slightest nudge onto a wheelstop or scrape coming down a too steep downtown parking garage driveway has caused about a third of it to start splitting and breaking off. Someone mentioned that Lincoln has admitted this defect and has paid for the replacement but our Lincoln dealer was unsuccessful. Any one else have or heard of this problem? I guess I could write to Lincoln and complain. We have had this car for only just over a year since it was sitting at a dealer, brand new all this time.

My 98 is solid as a rock...I've scrapped and banged that against the curb in my complex countless times, and its still there.

If in fact you bought this car brand new then I would think it would still be under factory warranty, unless you have over 50,000 miles already. As the warranty starts when the car goes into service not when it was made and the Contis have a 4 year 50K mile warranty.

We haven't had that problem with our '99 or '00. We've accidently scraped them hard too. If it's under warranty, request that it be replaced, maybe with one from an earlier car if the part is available. It might not show up if the part number was never changed.
