03 Lincoln LS touch screen navigation / cd changer

Will it physically fit? Yes. Can you make it work? Yes. But the process involved is labor intensive and VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE! It's not as easy as it sounds. Plus, you need more parts than he is selling. And you can't just "build" a proper wiring harness. There are twisted pairs, shielded cables, etc that you can't do. You would need to buy the factory harness to be correct....and that is some serious money. Not saying that a home built harness wouldn't get you buy, but if Ford saw the need for all these little extras in their harness, it must be there for a reason. I would pass on this and go with a good aftermarket system like the Pioneer AVIC-D1 or similar. Much less expensive, much easier to intall, and in many aspects...a better NAV unit.

And by the way, the bottom unit shown is not a CD changer. It's the DVD player for the NAV disk. No, it won't play movies or games. The CD changer is a 6 disk that loads behind the screen.

Anyone hear the news that Ford is going to offer an office solution for their F150s next year? Supposedly it is a pc solution complete with printer and other accys.

I have not heard that Noah! That would be a great idea! They should offer it in their vans, etc too. There are a ton of factory reps who use these vehicles as part of a company fleet that would love that.

I think they started advertising it already. I really hope the market is there. I know the F150 is one of the biggest sellers but that sounds like a real select, exclusive market.

How expensive are we talking about? I've been wanting to put the THX/Nav kit in my car since before I even bought it.

I looked into this extensively for my wife's Aviator. I even made up a parts list. The first thing you need is the main body wiring harness. That alone stopped me. It was something like $800. It also has to EXACTLY match every option on the vehicle. There is a module in the system you will need. You need an antenna. If the NAV has voice activation, you will need the rear view mirror with the microphone and the wiring harness for that. (I believe the LS doesn't have voice activation but the Aviator did) You will need to buy the DVD software. All in all, it adds up to a pretty penny. Now, if you could find a wrecked vehicle they would allow you to remove everything from, I think it would be reasonable to do. But you need to get the factory wiring diagrams so you know ALL the components you need. You will also need to get all the associated mounting brackets for everything. The real problem you can run into is the connectors. Some of them you just can't buy. That's another reason for getting the entire harnesses. Not only are they built correctly for the application, but they come with all the necessary connectors.

Remember, the electronics on this vehicle (and the Aviator) is extremely sohpisticated. You need to ensure that you do things correctly to keep the entire system happy.

This can be done...but it depends on how much you are willing to spend. Good luck and let us know!!

Does a Pioneer AVIC-D1 fit the LS (mines an 02, but I think they are all the same)? Crutchfield says it will not fit.

Thats a good question. That is the nav i want and I almost bought one the other night. It looks like it would fit with some sort of custom surround.

Crutchfield is a bunch of idiots. They also told me you could not use any type of steering wheel button adapter with the LS if it had the Alpine option from the factory. That's bull. PAC told me themselves what one will work. With the AVIC-D1, you use the hard wired adapter that plugs into the unit since it's not infrared.

There are a few LS's here that have put a double din head unit in their LS. Yes...it will fit and it looks very nice. But all of them had to build some sort of custom face plate to make it work. Most are taking a face plate off an old radio and modifying it. I've seen both the Pioneer and the Kenwood units here on this site and they look just like factory. Do a search and you will come up with the photos. Good luck...you will love it when it's done!
