Got some pics of the flames being put on my car.

Before

Taped on

Back Taped

Sprayed

Clear coat tomorrow and the wet sanding and buffing on Wednesday.

More pics to follow.

Posted by: KD00LS

Not bad, personally I wouldn't go with flames on a luxury car, but they look good so far. I take it you are repainting the whole car, what color?

Posted by: itsnotmydaddys

looking good what does that cost if you dont mind

Posted by: tylers65

The color will be the factory color.

I have a lot of friends in the hot rod and painting fields. I had a large gouge in my hood that needed repairing so I would have been into the repair $600 but with the flames, it will cost me $650 to $700.

Most places charge about $2000 to $2500 for flames like this.

Posted by: KD00LS

Wow that's a deal. I like the stock color, good choice.

Posted by: FreeFaller

Heh...that looks sweet!

Posted by: tylers65

Thanks!

Posted by: GrayGhost1

I think this is going to be HOT! It looks like it is a slight variance of your original paint color. If so, then it should look very nice. Ghost flames will look great or look terrible. However, this looks like it will turn out very good. Definitely post more pics!!

Posted by: tylers65

Thanks Ken!

And thanks for the new emblem for my grill!

I cannot beleive how fast the parts shipped!

LMAO! Well, my painter and I have been going around and around about this ghost flame stuff for 8 or 9 months now. He wants my car so bad he can't stand it. We agreed that if he did it it would be all or nothing. So, that's why I haven't done this yet. He wants to take the flames all down the side and past the rear doors. However, he wants to use a darker variance of the Midnight Grey Metallic paint. According to his book there are about 6 different variances on the color code TV. He wants to pick the darker of the six or one shade darker than I have. This way it's not noticiable unless you are looking for it. Definitely ghost!

See that's how you do a set of ghost flames. I'd like to see that, but remember there is other variants of paint schemes. Maybe just run a darker Midnight Grey on the bottom than on the top. All kinds of stuff to think about.

Let me tell you........ that once I saw a mercedes E320 painted custom orange metallic with ghost flames and it looked gorgeous, the flames dissapeared and reappeared as you walked around the car... that was one of the best paint jobs ive ever seen... and if successful the LS with look twice as better..good luck.

Posted by: lexmarkz00

I'd expect to see something like that on a Neon or something. :\

How to win friends and influence others.

It is a hotrod thing. Either you get it or you don't.

I guess if everyone drove white cars with no differences, it would suit you just fine.

Without those who are willing to take chances, we would all have factory stock horse drwn buggies because no one would have taken a chance by putting a motor on one.

NEON

I have run them through heavy rain with a lot of standing water and they performed well.

This will be the first winter I will go through with them. But here in the Seattle area, winter is not quite so bad.

They are 245/45/ZR18 96Y BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW

The picture makes the sidewalls' look larger than 45's but they still look good. Thanks for the info. My 2004 is still stock but I do have major plans for it.

Posted by: tylers65

I always thought the same thing. The sidewalls seem a bit tall on them to mee too. Hell, I could be lying to you though, My car has been away from home for about a week and unless I check crap like that every couple of days I forget. I will double check tomorrow when I pick the car up. I am pretty sure I have the size right though.

Posted by: LikeNew02

not really my style for a lux car, but it looks real clean otherwise(excellent work, great color combination). the more that i look at it, the more a like it.

looking forward to seeing more pictures!

Posted by: GrayGhost1

Sweet!

Posted by: doug03ls

That looks really nice!! Good job!

Posted by: tylers65

I have to agree. The finished product is nothing like I thought it would be. Good job Tyler. Im still trying to figure out what to do with my LS.

Posted by: GrayGhost1

You guys have to have faith in the painter. When they "ghost" flames..that's what they are. Your not suppose be see them unless you look at the car a certain way. This adds mystery to the car and makes people want to look. I love to see this on street rods and when I do I just stare at it.

Your painter did a great job!

Posted by: HyeLifeLS

Looks really nice man, I like the color of the flames, it's good that they are not much visible. Looks really clean and the grill is nice too. Congrats.

Thanks Ken!

What most people do not know is that ghost flames are nothing but pearl mixed into clear coat. When you are shooting pearl, you cannot see the colors you are spraying. There is an unwritten rule about spraying pearl. If you can see the color, you just put too much on. So as the painter is spraying and trying to blend the different colors of pearl, he cannot see where one color ends and the other begins. It truly is an artform. That is why flames like this normally cost $2000 to $2500. you only end up about $300 into the materials, the rest you are paying for time and talent.

Posted by: lexmarkz00

I must say it doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would.

Posted by: Mulato

You and your friend did a great job......It looks fantastic.

Posted by: JC1994

Posted by: BIG CELO

wOw wOw!! The paint job came out GREAT!!

Posted by: FreeFaller

That looks great! Very nice work!

Posted by: mharrison

Very nice. You should send your painter a fifth of his favorite now! That is a super job!

Posted by: SoonerLS

Oh my God! Methanol fire!

I like flames on hot rods, but they just don't look right to me on newer cars. I do have to admit, though, while it's not something I'd do to my car, the result is stunning. You need to tip that painter (or at least buy him dinner at a nice restaurant); your car looks incredible.

Posted by: tylers65

Thanks for all of the compliments everyone!

Posted by: DERBYCHIC

Nice Flame Job ( You Got A Great Price) Its Hard To Find Someone Who Can Lay Out Nice Flames

I Have Ghost Flames On My Black Pickup , But I Have The Harlequin That Changes Colors, When The Light Hits Just Right They Really Show Up

Posted by: pepperman

Very good paint job, ghost flames came out excellent, i have always liked ghost flames!!!!

Posted by: Hoverracer8

I was thinking of doing even more GHOST tribal flames on my silver LS. Like you have to stand just absolutly right to see them! I love yours but want something a little more subtle on the silver almost not there, Yours look amazing on the darker colored car though!

Posted by: BCs71

Nice flames! I have had ghost flames on my Caddy for the last 1.5 weeks, so I can safely say I have NO problem with flames on a luxury car.

http://hometown.aol.com/bcndahous/page3.html

THere are some pics of my Caddy, not as "ghosty" as yours, but I like them nonetheless. Two coats of silver pearl metallic over factory light gray metallic.

Nice job! I got a total repaint on my car and the ghost flames for $3500, to put it perspective more.

Awsome job with the paint.

Posted by: fonsito

Im not a big fan of Flames but on your car it looks great even though you cant barely see it

Posted by: jumpman6235

wow looks much better than i would think, yea u can barely see it but that makes it even better, you shouldnt go over the top with flames on an LS... you should clear your headlights

Posted by: rickztahone

this guy said he sold his car almost 2 yrs ago

I get that this guys car was sold but someone has it right? I wasn't even a member back then and am glad someone re-aired this thread.

I agreeeeeee with fonsito's comment, this is exactly true of the LS, and I'm even less of a flame fan but those look good being that understated.

I agree and like the signature too fonsito, well put.

Posted by: union807trucker

wow lmao

Posted by: Nikollaj

Danm thats nice...... but i think it would of looked a lil better if you had a different color.. but hye it looks nice

Posted by: GWL

This is a great job of ghosting. It is an outstanding job and the gray takes it very well. Here is an example I found in Red. Not quite as classy as gray, but still well done.

Thankx bro! I am a person of my own style if you know what I mean... I love to look at pictures of the LS and see what else can I do to it that nobody has done or try to do that with a custom blend so it is not a straight off copy...
