Master Cylinder Replacement

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: 1986_MarkVII

Auto: 1986 Mark VII -- Bill Blast edition

5.0 motor

Problem:

Frequent brake fluid loss. Go through about two-three pints of fluid per week.

I went to auto parts store to get replacement. Went through three exchanges because each one they gave me, did not match what I have.

I was unable to reach to the back to undo the unit to replace it.

Question:

Does anyone have a step by step, hopefully with photographs, of how to replace the master cylinder.

First thing to do is figure out where the fluid is going. I don't understand why you want to replace the entire (expensive) master cylinder to fix a leak. Figure out where the leak is coming from and repair the leak; don't just replace parts.

Also, you drive a Bill BLASS, not a Bill Blast edition Mark VII. Bill Blass was a famous clothing designer of the era and had his name on the car like so many other designer editions.
