Thinking of moving from gen1 to gen2

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My gen1 got sideswiped by some crackhead about three weeks ago. Still drivable but looks like a hunk of chit. If possible I would like some coments from people who have made the jump from gen1 to gen2.

I know the gen2s are heavier and more refined. How much different is the performance. I would be moving to an LSC if I stay in the game.

Otherwise I might grab my ankles and get a 03 cobra.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

BILL

if you want to get a G2 go for a 98. well if you want performance, then by all means go with the 03 cobra.... hands down!

Gen 2's are nice but they'll pinch the pocket book a lot more than the Gen 1's

Says who? I haven't spent a dime in 2 years. I'd definitely get a '98 for the upgraded trans alone. Plus the air bags will be fresher. The things that go bad like the blend door can be a DIY project and the neon light can be fixed for $100. If you get a southern car, you won't have to worry about any rust.

Everybody says the Gen 1's are faster but get a chip and things even out pretty fast. The LSC will get you the 3.27 gears vs the stock 3.07's.

Outside of that, the refinement of the interior is certainly a plus. The double din radio, the buttons that don't crack, the interior lighting, turn signal lights, halogens, the list goes on and on.

No doubt the '98 is the way to go.

For comfort/refinement it's gen2. A chip will make a gen2 very comparable to a gen1 without a chip. (OK, I said it. Gen1 is a little faster. Are you happy now?) When was the last time a gen1 owner said "I love my headlights" ? Neon looks cool! Seats more comfortable. (cup holders SUCK!) But get a 98 because of transmission. I once raced a gen1 with exhaust (i have a chip). At 90 his nose was 2 feet ahead of mine.

I LOVE my headlights!!

I have a 98 with Geno's chip, MAF and K&N air filter. I like it much better than the 94 I had before. The 98 is no dog when I left the LVC party at Geno's place I punched it from a roll and put up a small smoke screen.

Grab your ankles and get the 03 Cobra. Then mod it to hell and grab the road!

Guys that "trade-up" to a Mustang usually don't last. If you love the ride and smoothness of the Mark, it is hard to replace and a rustang just won't do it for ya.

Don't buy a Lincoln for speed buy it for luxury, looks, and comfort. If you want speed but a motorcycle.....faster than an '03 Cobra (though they are sweet) and a hellavua lot better on gas!!

what is the difference between the 98 and the 97 tranny, I thought the were the same?

Posted by: JoeyLincolnMK8

in the 98 tranny, they have the updated accumlator springs. you know the ones that aways break.

Posted by: MarkVIII93

Id honestly take either one. I like all mark's depsite year, color, or rims. But i like my car the most of all!

Posted by: Bates93Mark8

I like Both myself I have a 93 and a 97 and I like the intior better on my 93 its sportier but the 97 is so sweet to you have to have both then you have the best of both worlds

Thanks for the feedback. How is the gen2 performance wise? Although heavier was the gearing different? Is the suspension firmer or softer on the LSC?

Posted by: mark0101

The only thinging that were upgraded in the LSC was true dual exhuast, painted chrome, better seats, 3.08 vs 3.27, and I think chrome wheels were standard.

Posted by: wm_sorg

So the LSC has 3.27 gears?

Posted by: mark0101

yeah but peple say they don't make any difference, the only thing that makes a difference in power is the true dual.
