1996 Continental Electrical Problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi LVC members,

Nice to finally have a long weekend. I would like to be out cruisings in my 1996 Lincoln Continental, but......... guess what, I have a problem. When I turn the car off, the left Daytime tunning lamp or Headlamp will come on and stay on and run the battery down. I have to remove the battery cable every time I park the car. The 1st time it happened, I wasn't aware there was a problem, but when CAA came and gave me a boost, the driver was kind enough to wait for a few minutes to let the battery charge up, and I restart, the engine, so I know the alternator is charging. The light sometimes is on when I shut the car off, other times it comes on later if I leave the battery cable on. No watning lights for problems come on the instrument panel. Has anyone else had this promlem or does anyone know a solution.
Thanks,
DV

No but I think there was a replacement part for that because it was a defected part from the ford motor company. I think your problem is something else, sorry I don't know and welcome to lincolnvscadillac.com.

i have a 1995 continetal and i never had that problem im sorry i dont know what the problem is iether but
um did you say that the light didnt want to come on or they didnt want to go out on there own
turn of the auto lights
from the memory and only yous the manual
then if that takes car of your problem
go to the dealer couse there was a factory recal on the lighting control modual it was a trafic highways motor vehicle saftery recal wich means no matter how old the car is if they havnt recaled the part yet they have to do the work and youd ont have to pay for it so its no harm in cheking it out

Thanks for the reply bigdog1279. I will turn off the autolamp switch & see if that makes any difference. I had a 1988 Cadillac Sedan de Ville before , and the cooling fan did the same thing, and I fixed the problem by replacing an $8.00 relay in the unde hood fuse box. I took out the headlight relay in the under hood fuse box bet the light stayed on.
