I need a new battery

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My battery has been in my car since 98 and it wont hold a charge very well. Im not sure what brand battery to buy. I think i might just pick up a 50 dollar battery from my local parts store. BTW I have a yellow top but people have told me that it wont fit in the marks, that i need a bracket or somethin like that.

Get an 800 80A crank Motorcraft, $80 at your dealer and starts like you wouldn't believe, especially in the winter...

You've tried the rest, now get the best.

Get at least a 950 CCA. If your on a budget, Walmart has them for $60 or so.

Yep, they work too!

If your going the cheap route, Wal-Mart everstart batteries are good enough because they have a 3-year warranty and you can replace it at any Wal-Mart (mine is an 850 CCR)

But if you have a yellow top stay away from sprawl*mart. throw it in and see if it fits it wont hurt any thing, just take 20 min.

i have a wall mart Batter got it last winter works great got my alternator changed same time
i payed 50 bucks for the batter then when to my mechanic for the alternator they are great

I've had great luck with Interstate batteries, I have never ever had one die on me, and the ones I have had have outlasted several of the cars they were in.

Posted by: mark0101

I have ever start in my conti but when I clean the car and keep the doors open, the car wouldn't start. I think I need to replace my battery too

Posted by: bigdog1279

have you replaced it since you got the car

Posted by: MarkVIII93

nope. never replaced

Posted by: mark0101

me too

Posted by: bigdog1279

is it a motor craft battery thats in there if so chances are its the orignal batter from when the car was new or its the replacment batter from when the car was under warranty or somthing like that and
its time to replace i say you probly what leave you blinker on for like 20 minuts and the cars almost dead or somthing like that right
its time for a new one same thing happened to me

Posted by: MarkVIII93

It is not a Motorcraft. It is a somethin quest. car quest or something like that.

Posted by: bigdog1279

never heard of that befor

Well Im screwed! I was pulling out of a parking lot with my crappy battery and as soon as i got on the road my radio died, then my A/C/heater control went blank, then my motor started to bog, blinkers wouldnt work, headlights were very very very dim, I got pulled over because i was trying to get home doing 10 over and no headlights i told him that i was having trouble with my alternator/battery system and he let me go. Then today i finally bought a battery(diehard gold). I get home put it in, starts just fine, Uh oh battery light is on. Unbolt the battery terminal and STAAAAALLLL. Crap!!! I knew i should have replaced the battery when i got the car. Now i have to spend another $100 on a &od D**M alternator!

Posted by: JoeyLincolnMK8

do not worry about it too much, before you know it the car will be fine.

Posted by: GMAN

Hey guys, I was washing my car this morning listening to the radio, when all of a sudden the radio went dead. I tried to turn the car over and it just clicked. The Viper Alarm still worked though. So I am leaning towards the alternator. I jump started it. Then later tonight it's dead again. I believe it is the alternator. What do you think?

Posted by: meangy9

I've had to replace my alternator since I've got my car. I just got one used from a Lincoln with 40k miles on it. Good enough for now. Only cost $30. Good luck.......I think I might get a new battery now.

Posted by: 94m5

GMAN, Pop the alt off and take it to a place to have it tested. Do the same with the battery.

People aint lying when they say the marks are FINIKY about battery voltage.

When it comes to batteries you get what you pay for. If you're a cheap ass and buy a wal-mart battery, don't be surprised if you have to replace it in 3 years.

Myself, friends, and family have had the best luck with A/C Delco batteries. I have one in my Honda.

Name brands that have let me down pre maturely:
Deka
Die Hard
Exide

also,
I know people that have had problems with the cheap pos Pep Boys Energizer batteries before they were a year old.

My Motorcraft battery hasn't let me down. It is rather heavy though but it does its job well.

Hey!! I got the same battery! no problems for about 3 years now.

Posted by: Psychostang

What type of terminals are those?

Posted by: MarkVIII93

Get a volt meter and test the battery and the alternator.
