I went out today to take my 97 eldorado up to about 140mph and see how it does.

well, to my surprise.., some dummy put a speed limiter on at about 115mph.

How the heck do I get rid of that thing..

What do I have to do, go back to my mercedes that doesn't have such silly things ?

No - Im not sure on the eldo, but you should be able to add a chip to the computer that removes it - or have the computer reprogrammed with the limiter removed.

Most if not all american cars come with a limiter.
