76 Sedan De Ville Exhaust

Can someone tell me how the exhaust is routed on the 76 Sedan De Ville. It is such a simple thing but I have two exhausts, they are both different, and I am very confused. One exhaust passes entirely down the passenger side of the vehicle; this exhuast is unfit for use. The replacement exhaust passes down the passenger side until it crosses the rear axle, a small silencer (muffler?) runs parallel to the axle and the exhaust exits on the drivers side. All contributions gratefully accepted.
