Locked in my Mark VIII

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Happened twice today, turned off the ignition and tried to unlock the doors, and the passenger side unlocked but the drivers side would not unlock. The actuator was acting like it was trying to unlock door, but it wouldn't unlock. Could not pull up door lock manually or unlock with transmitter, just seemed like the knob was trying to come up and unlock but might have been stuck on something or binding, not sure. I was only finally able to open the door by pulling on the inside door handle and also pulling up on the door knob at the same time and after doing that for awhile it finally unlocked. It only happens when I'm in the vehicle and turning it off, and trying to get out of car. Also are you suppose to be able to remove the ignition key in any position , even in the run position ? or is my lock cylinder just worn out. Thanks all, any help would be appreciated.

i can remove my key in any position, could do the same thing in my 93 Crown Vic.

Sounds like the lock cylinder is toast. You're not supposed to be able to remove the key in any position except the OFF position.

it's not toast - i can occasionally start the car without the key, but i can also lock the steering column if i want to.

Ok... It's not "TOAST", but it is deffinitely broken. It's NOT supposed to let you remove the key in any other position than OFF.

hehe. I have always liked dash ignition cars, where you can remove the key whenever you please.
