Defective Ford Manifolds-Please read!

After recently being advised by a forum member that Ford had settled a class action lawsuit for not recalling this defect in consumer grade vehicles, I have been doing some research to hopefully get my $$$ back too.

What I have found is that although there is a proposed settlement it is awaiting approval from the court before any settlements will be made. The settlement approval isnt scheduled until 9/30/05.

This gives you guys plenty of time to get your reciepts or other documentation together so you too can get your money back too.

Lincoln Town Car 1996-2001
Ford Crown Victoria 1996-2001
Mercury Cougar; Ford Thunderbird and Mustang 1997 (build date after 6/24/97)
Ford Mustang 1998-2001 (some vehicles)
Ford Explorer 2002 (some vehicles)

Do yo know if there are any recalls on the 2002 lincoln town car. I am about to drive over 50000 miles and I want to get every thing done before I go over 50000.

what do we do if we have a "starting to crack" manifold? mine has a pinhole in it ,i bought a lower milaged one but ,if i can get them to pay for something i want it done.if not im doing it my self.

This has been a problem for a while now.. The entire intake manifold is made of plastic. At the very front of it, it splits all the way across. They sell a replacement intake that is STILL all plastic except for the 2 front intake runners, which I believe are made of aluminum. I don't know if Ford or any aftermarket companies make an all aluminum intake, but that is what I would want to replace it with. What in the BLUE HELL was Ford thinking with this design?!?!?!

The awnser is yes, they do produce all-aluminum intakes. Early 4.6 NPI stock heads used an all-aluminum piece. Alot of 5.4 swappers look for the early 4.6 fully aluminum intakes so they can weld an extra inch to make them fit the 5.4 engine and still clear stock hoods.

Ford also produced an all-aluminum SVO intake similar to the Bullit intake for NPI heads. The Bullit and SVO intakes give good gains, but may not be worth your budget for what you get for gains in the end.

As for PI headed 4.6's, Ford the Bullit intake that you can find on the "Bullit" Mustang.

I had mine replaced already. You will know when it happens, and i suggest you to pull the car over then and there, i have heard of many people frying the engine going to the next exit ramp.

I reccomend change it before it blows. it will happen.

For is not paying for all cars. I dont think they are paying for many civilian, older year fords. They are more taking care of fleet vehicles, and newer cars.

ford is NOW paying for ALL CARS as a result of the class action suit settlement.

the original recall only covered fleet vehicles.

From the information i can gather it appears that ford could have prevented this without paying for any of these had they disclosed to everyone in CA that the manifolds were defective before they sold the vehicle.

apparently there is a disclosure law in CA that declares you must at least inform the consumer of any known potental defect, whether you plan to cover it under warranty or not. it was a known defect because the same part was recalled in fleet vehicles and not consumer.

the case grew and apparently the proposed settlement will cover ALL ford vehicles with thedefective intake. we are just waiting for the judge to approve the settlement on 9/30/05 so that we can start sending in our claims.

find your reciept or call you dealership for a copy before they get flooded or you will only get $700 back. i know mine cost $1800 but $400 was for replacing all the hoses i figured they should while they were in there.

Wow! Thats good news! Mine only cost $400. I have all recipts. I wonder if i can get $700 instead? Id make $300.

yeah actually my dads 98 grand marquis just went few days ago. so hope he gets his money back as well.

I just got a letter in the mail yesterday from the Lawyers in California informing me to go to a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership 90 days after the settlement is approved.

My brother in law in NYC also got one for his 2001 Mustang GT

if you have a 98 this is the 7th year! mine went last october

I think im screwd too, it went june of this year, and i only owned the car since April. But i can have my buddy make ma up a recipt with a differnt date on it, but do you think Ford would know i didnt own the car 3 years ago? So why would i get the paper in the mail? I would have though the last owner would have.

I just received my refund check in the mail. I brought the repair receipt to my local Ford Dealer and within a week the check arrived.
