Two months ago I bought a 2001 V8 LS with 68,000 miles. I guess I bought a P.O.S. I have an appointment with the dealership this sat for the dreaded misfire problem. He recommeded replacing: the valve cover gaskets, The bad coil, and a tune up. All to a tune of almost $800.

To top that off, today coming back to work from lunch, my front passenger door window won't come down. I just hear a click sound, but the window is stuck in the up position. Any ideas or suggestions. Maybe this is my fault for getting a car soley based on looks.

Was this the first diagnosis on the mis-fire? The dealer wants to replace the valve cover gaskets so that they don't infect any more COP's. However, I do think that $800 is a little steep. There has been some folks here that have done the gasket replacement so you might want to consider that option. It would definitely save you some money.

As for the window, it looks like you had a bad window regulator or motor go bad. That is another DIY project if you willing to do it. I have a 2001 and I've had some items crap out on me but for the most part it's been a very reliable car.

Have you considered getting a second opinion from another dealership?

The computer came up with a misfire on coil # 8 . I Live in an apt and don't really have the space(small parking lot)/time(newborn son)/ or know how to do it myself.

there are a few tech articles on how to do it.. not a hard job, i've been through it twice..

dont you have 90 days on the car, in which if anything goes wrong they have to fix it, did you buy it from a flm dealership?

I understand your situation. It's unfortunate that the dealer is about the only people that can work on the LS. I'd recommend getting a second quote from another dealer if that's possible.

No, I bought it from a used car lot- AS IS. That sucks. I gave him a real hard time and he agreed to pay for autozone parts, but not labor. I don't want to cheap parts so I may just sell them online.

I traded in my Stang GT Convertible for a Lux. family car and got screwed. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if the timeing weren't so awful. My wife quit work 2 months ago and won't work for 3 more months so she can take care of our son. So I have her bills to pay as well, in addition to my tuition and books for college (Last Semester thankfully). I am not a baller yet.

Surely to goodness one of LvC's members lives near you in San Antonio to help you out. Is there not anyone in the San Antonio area that can help him out?

sorry to hear about all the bad luck..

as far as the window, i had this issue with my driver door, its a plastic piece that clamps to the glass and connects to window frame, its cheap and breaks,, they pulled my window apart and had it replaced. say its very common with the LS

Well I guess God has sympathy for me. On my way home my window started working again. Hopefully it will last. One less problem for now.
