99 Cobra water pump

Has anyone used a 99 Cobra water pump on their Mark VIII? In the SHM book he says they are a better design which leads to less horesepower lost at the engine. I'm pretty sure it's a direct fit for any 4.6 DOHC.

Be sure to check the pulley ribs. I think 99 is the year Ford did a few redesigns on the pulley/ water pump system...

Does anyone else have info on this subject?

You use the old pulley when you get a water pump. So the ribs are not a problem. I think any 4.6 water pump will work. I just replaced mine, just went to NAPA and got one. I don’t think there is any difference for a cobra, just save your money and get a new one from NAPA they flow the same.

(Don’t take the belt off) it easy to replace, just undo the bolts on the pulley than take the belt off remove the pulley, undo the 4 bolts holding it on, chances are it wont fall out. You might have to do some tugging and prying to get it UN stuck from the block.

After removal, put some sealant on the gasket and do in reverse order. Easy.

They may be the same pump from NAPA (consolidation) but I'll sure bet that Ford shows a different part number.

They did re design them. Steeda says you need to check for a different design pulley when ordering one of thier underdrive kits. I would imagine.....IF there is a difference in flow design, you could just swap the correct pulley on. I don't know for sure tho.
