Loud Suspension Noise

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: aggiestckl

whats the deal with the loud noise on my 97 when hitting bumps sounds like a pickup going over speed bumps? shocks or struts or somethin? how much to replace and what website?? thanks a ton!!!! this site is great

Posted by: scott9050

Front or back? If the front could be: upper control arms, lower control arms, sway bar end links, bad struts etc. If the back it could be the shock mounts, shocks etc. The best way to tell is to take a look.

do not forget ball joints, those bushings on them can get deteriorated over time!

I have the same problem in my '97 as well. For me, it is the front and I have yet to check the suspension.

well hey im shure if you come to the meet at debis in Columbus someone will help you figure out whats rong

Posted by: fossten

I have the same problem. It was the front upper control arm/ball joints. I am replacing them myself. $65.00 a piece from Autozone, cheapest I found. Lincolns Online has instructions.

Thanks for the heads up, on the suspension parts.

I am looking forward to the Ohio meet. I haven't been home in a long time to see my family and friends. I am looking forward to making some new friends too! As it is for now I must rest, for the corporate vampires are out there . . . waiting to try and suck the life out of me for another week.

Hey, I almost never shop there, but the parts from RockAuto.com were $77.00 apiece plus shipping plus waiting. I have to follow the price.

That was the side my noise was coming from. I just replace the ball joint on the pass. side today, and VOILA! No more thumping!

I also checked the driver's side, and that ball joint is shot, too, although it's not making noise yet. Don't forget to check both sides.

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I've always had nothing but good luck with Moog hardware. A little spendy, but IMHO, worth it if you are going to keep the car for a long time.

I have the same problem. but i'm not sure, i think i might be the rear strut on the pass. side because when i hit a speed bump and just nock that wheel, it thumps and makes like a loose change noise, like something is loose. idk if anyone has a clue, lemme know, i have a 93 mark VIII LSC

Posted by: Frogman

A 93 LSC???

:conered:

Posted by: Shaun 97VIII

yeah... didnt the LSC start in 1995? hehehe

Posted by: Frogman

Apparently not...?

That could be your ball joint or your end link. Both are easy to replace yourself on the pass. side and not too expensive a part.
