I recently bought a 97 Towncar. The car's great except for the nicotine smell which reeks throughout. It's got the leather interior which I'm pretty sure I can clean, along with shampooing the floor and door carpet. What about the headliner? Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just take up smoking?

I would say go get one of those small steam cleaners from like wall mart and do the headliner... that might work... i dunno, smoking in a town car? those bastards!

Lincolns sound like the ultimate smoking cars to me. Cigars atleast. But then again, I smoke cigarettes in mine everyday.

well, ive smoked in mine a couple times,cigars, and i just drive with the windows down and spray a bunch of cologne and stuff. but as for you, the people probably smoked alot, so just spray alot of sprays, what do you have to lose? anythings better than smoke.

Tobacco smoke is one of the most difficult smells to remove from a car. The smoke permeates everything, including the foam rubber used in seat cushions. You can successfully remove most of the tobacco smell by shampooing the carpets and upholstery with Kids & Pets Brand Stain & Odor Remover, and wiping down all other surfaces with a sponge and Kids & Pets Brand Stain & Odor Remover. After the carpet has dried for 24 hours, sprinkle baking soda on the carpet, rub it in with your hands, and leave it for a week. After a week, vacuum your carpets. The baking soda will absorb the remaining odor in the carpet. Don’t forget to scrub the headliner, as this is the source of a lot of the smell. I would take it in and have the whole car, headliner and all, steam cleaned.
Another idea...
Use vanilla extract. Put a large amount on a piece of rag and throw it under the car seat. It will draw the odor into the rag. When it starts smelling again, use more vanilla. It works!

I've also heard Charcoal in the car. That's supposed to work wonders, but I've never tried it. Febreeze just masks smells in my opinion, and it smells like crap.
