whats with 95-97 ashtrays?

i have a 95 ltc and my ashtrays in the back never stay closed.Then i go on ebay, and i notice that every 95-97 tc's ashtrays are always open.Why wont they close?

WhiteLincoln did a writeup on this problem. He says the springs break off and require new mount holes in the cover and spring replacement, if you can't find the old ones.
