(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My abs occasionally kicks on for no reason. The ABS and Track control indicators will stay on unti I restart. Does not happen all of the time. Anyone elese have this problem?

Regards,
BILL

No I don't think I've ever had that problem. you should find somebody on this site that can help though.

Have you recently done a burnout? If so, you have rubber built up in the sensor. I had the same thing happen to me a while ago. I took the car to an automatic car wash that had the sprayer on the bottom for the bottom of the car and it went away.

If you did not do a burnout, I am at a loss. Hope that helps a bit.

Could just be a bad wheel speed sensor or a bad connection to a sensor. Do the lights come on right away after you start the car or after you start driving?

You may want to spray some degreaser/brake cleaner on the wheel sensors. They could just be gummed up from years or road grime and dirt.

Thank for the replies. The light come on after driving a while. One it came on when I hit a bump. Other times it comes on when I am breaking in a turn. I am guessing a bad sensor. I wish I could figure out which one. Anyone here know how to pull ABS codes with the jumper trick?

the only time (so far) that i had the ABS light come on was when my car died....lol!!!!

Posted by: SmokinMarkVIII

That happned to my ABS/traction but when i restarted the car then the lights would turn off.... i never did anything to fix the problem now the lights are always on..what can i do to fix this?

Since the wheel speed sensors are an integral part of the ABS and the traction control system, it's almost got to be a sensor. I don't know if somewhere like AutoZone can do a diagnostic to pull a code for a bad wheel sensor. There's always the (gulp) bend-over-and-make-you-squealership!

Try the suggestion a few posts earlier about spraying brake clean or degreaser on the sensor. Also check to see if the connections are solid and not corroded. Good Luck!

On my previous 94 M8 the ABS & Trac Asst. light would come on but only when it rained, then they would come back on after the sensor, probably, dried off. Never noticed loss of abs or brakes. My 96 is ok, so far!

I'm sure one of these guys will know about getting the code, these guys know everything!
